Most drawing devices, such as tablets, touchscreens, etc., are designed to be used with a computer. Most computers are starting to use USB ports as opposed to the DB-9 RS-232 port, therefore RS-232 DB-9 serial devices are becoming more and more obsolete, as the USB devices are starting to become standard.
New Pointmakers will support both USB and RS-232 devices, and may eventually move to only USB.
Here are some notes on using the new USB tablet provided with a Pointmaker model that ends in DU:
- When the supplied USB tablet is plugged directly to the USB port on the Pointmaker it is hotswappable.
- When the supplied USB tablet is used with extenders it is NOT hot swappable.
- We've tested one brand of USB extenders called IOGEAR model GUCE50. You can find more information about these extenders at: www.iogear.com
- In order to extend the USB tablet a self-powered USB HUB must also be used to power the tablets. We've tested the D-link brand.
