Draw and Point on Training
Presentations Using Up to 10 Tablets

The Boeckeler Pointmaker COMM option expands by 4 or by 8 the number of controllers (drawing devices) that are connected to a single Pointmaker PVI-83TM video marker with keyboard. In effect, the COMM option allows up to 10 viewers to electronically draw and point on video or computer images displayed during training sessions, classes, or videoconferences. This development broadens the applications of the video marker for use in multi-media presentations that require drawing and pointing to take place from several areas in a room. Having various points of interaction can actively involve training participants, explain and highlight important points, and facilitate the flow of ideas and points of view made during seminars and conferences.

Applications for Multiple Controllers
The Pointmaker COMM option can be useful, for example, in distance learning or training sessions that involve several groups analyzing a single transmitted image. Participants can now express their points from one of several places in the auditorium or classroom, rather than take the time to approach the podium to use the instructor's device. The instructor can also "take control" by making his/her device the only active one in the classroom. The Pointmaker PVI-83 allows users to mark, draw, and point on details of text, technical data, medical images, maps, replays of events, or any other image that is being discussed in detail.

The Pointmaker PVI-83 video marker with keyboard comes standard with two COMM ports for use with up to two controllers. The Pointmaker COMM-4 option allows 4 additional ports for use with up to 6 controllers, and the Pointmaker COMM-8 option allows 8 additional ports for use with up to 10 controllers.

Also Useful When Not Transmitting Images
Because the Pointmaker PVI-83 can also be used with many video and computer sources, the videoconference model can double as a presentation aid in the classroom, boardroom, broadcast studio, and more. Each PVI-83 model can be used with monochrome EIA RS-170, composite NTSC, Y/C (S-video), RGB, VGA, and Macintosh sources and displays. The Pointmaker can be used in conjunction with most document imaging devices, visual presenters, VCRs, laser disk players, and other video sources.

Each Pointmaker PVI-83 model comes standard with a keyboard and one of a variety of devices such as the light pen or digitizing tablet. The PVI-83 is also compatible with certain touch screens and other mouse devices.

Standard Codec Connections
The Pointmaker PVI-83 is connected between the codec and video monitor, and, in videoconferences, can operate either NTSC or S-Video (Y/C). Since two Pointmaker PVI-83 units are usually operated in tandem, both ends can view and write over the shared image. While each user can create and clear his/her own markers, neither user can erase the other's markers during the videoconference. In order for one Pointmaker PVI-83 to transmit instructions to the other, the data port on a codec is normally used. If data ports are unavailable, a modem is typically used on each end to create an RS-232 link.
