COMM Ports

When the Pointmaker comes from the factory the COMM ports are set for ?Autodetect.? The Pointmaker can automatically detect devices that are plugged into its COMM ports such as tablets and touchscreens.

You can ensure the ports are set for Autodetect within the setup menu:

1.) With the unit turned off connect a keyboard. (unless you are using a PVI-64.)  If there is no keyboard use the digitizing tablet for access to the menu by pressing down the gray button on the stylus closest to the pen tip, and depressing the pen tip itself into the drawing area. Hold those two down for about 5 seconds and the setup menu should appear.

2.) Using the arrow keys on the keyboard or stylus on the tablet,  place  the cursor over the selection named, ?HARDWARE SETUP? and press Enter or press down on the drawing area.

3.) Place the cursor over the selection named, "SERIAL PORTS" and press Enter or press down on the drawing area.

4.) Place the cursor over the selection named, "STARTUP" and press Enter or press down on the drawing area.

5.) Be sure that "AUTO DETECT" is highlighted pink. If it is not, place the cursor over the selection and press Enter or press down on the drawing area.

6.) Exit the menu, and cycle power to save your settings.

The Pointmaker will autodetect touchscreens, tablets, etc., but when there are other devices (third party control, AMX, Crestron, etc.) the Pointmaker doesn?t recognize them, so you have to designate what port you are using for control. (Only one can be designated as such.)

1.) Follow steps 1, 2 & 3 above.

2.) Place the cursor over the middle selection in the submenu. It can be named either "AMX/CRESTRON" or "CONTROL PORT" You will then see a menu with Baud Rate, Parity and Stop Bits settings. At the bottom of that menu there is a box that says, "COMM # [xx] of 10." The xx can either be 00, 01, 02, and so on depending on how many ports are on the main unit. If the selection is 00 then no COMM port is designated as a port for control, and every port can be used for a touchscreen or tablet. If it is 01, then COMM 1 is designated for control; if it is 02, then COMM 2 is designated for control, and so on.

3.) To change the number at the bottom of the menu inside the box, place the cursor over the small box around the number, (it will change to a black outline instead of white) and press enter to cycle through the numbers.

4.) Exit the menu, and cycle power to save your settings.
